Chapter 1 Part 2
The next part of the the chapter talks about shapes. I never knew that shading can also be called gradation. Also, it surprises me that with shading, a 2-D picture can be made into a 3-D picture with the use of lighter colors and extra lines drawn in. On page 12, Stewart defines that “a shape that is distinguished from the background is called a positive shape, or figure. The surrounding is called the negative shape, or ground.” It is interesting learning all these new art terms. I still think of the terms, positive and negative as either math or business terms.
